General Info
Location & Getting there

Kuruwitu is a serene, coastal gem nestled along Kenya’s North Coast, in the Vipingo area of Kilifi County. Tucked between Mombasa and Kilifi town, it’s known for its pristine beaches, coral gardens, and the Kuruwitu Marine Conservancy—one of the first community-managed marine areas in East Africa.

Despite its peaceful seclusion, Kuruwitu is easily accessible:

  • By Air:
The nearest airport is Vipingo Ridge Airstrip (VPG), just a 10–15 minute drive away. Private charters and select flights from Nairobi (via Safarilink or Fly ALS) land here.
Alternatively, Moi International Airport (Mombasa) is about 1.5–2 hours away by road.
  • By Road:
From Mombasa or Kilifi, take the Mombasa–Malindi Highway (A14) and turn off at the Kuruwitu junction (near Vipingo Ridge). The beach area is roughly 5–10 minutes off the highway on a murram road. 4WD is not essential but can be helpful during the rainy season.
  • By SGR (Train):
Take the SGR Madaraka Express to Mombasa Terminus, then continue by car (approx. 2 hours to Kuruwitu).
